Lalique Museum in Wingen-sur-Moder

alsace-lalique-museum

The famous crystal glassworks Lalique is located in Wingen-sur-Moder, in the North of Alsace. The Lalique museum recounts the history of the manufacture and lets you discover the world and creations of René Lalique and his successors. This museum opened in 2011 and is spacious and modern. It’s a very beautiful place and I really enjoyed the visit!

The exhibit of the Lalique museum is presented by themes, recounting the history of the brand. René Lalique started with goldsmithery, before dedicated himself entirely to glasswork. His son Marc then decided to abandon glass for crystal. You’ll be able to admire a series of jewelry, perfume bottles, glass dishware, modern creations in crystal… The collection is fascinating. I was particularly impressed by the diversity of the objects exhibited: such creativity!

I enjoyed the visio-guide offered by the Lalique museum. It is interesting and lets you choose easily the level of details you want on a specific theme: general summary, technical explanation or comment of the piece. There is also a movie shown in the auditorium at the end of the exhibit that you shouldn’t miss, as it shows the making of crystal objects in the Lalique factory. Considering the work done for each piece, from the design to the making, you’ll understand why the prices of the brand are so high. It’s a splendid work of fineness!
