Alsace has a common border with Switzerland, and particularly with the canton of Basel. It is very common for the Alsacians to visit Switzerland, particularly for the people living in the south part of Alsace. Many Alsacians work in Basel, mostly in the pharmaceutical industry.

Basel is cultural capital of Switzerland and is very dynamic. You go there to see exhibitions, to go out for the evening or even to swim in the Rhine in summer.

During a week-end in Alsace, it can be very unjoyable to cross the border to visit the pretty city of Basel. The only drawback is the cost of living, which is very high.
